Lovely traditional old stone house, across 2 floors and entry. There are stairs with this. 17 from street door to First floor door for cosy Living level, and then 16 to the Attic bedroom. Spotless. Beautifully and comfortably decorated. Madame Catherine is a very fastidious Hostess and welcomed us with delicious warm Apple Cakes. We only ever ate in and the kitchenette was efficient and well appointed. Lots of Dish Towels, batterie de cuisine and basic useful condiments were supplied. The elegant full sized frig enabled us to do 1 grocery shop from the nearby U Grocers. The Stacked Washing Machine and Tumble Dryer in Hallway were easy to use and greatly appreciated. There were heaps of nice thick towels, and lots of storage in the spacious bathroom with fancy jacuzzi shower. Safe and luxurious. The upper bedroom was large, light and the big bed was very comfortable. Nice linens. 2 Suitcase Racks supplied, shows great attention to detail. |We had no car but the location was wonderful. Near Place Patrice where Saturday markets are held. A Church and the big Police Station nearby too. We walked to the Main Street, the longest we’ve ever seen, which is the heart of the City. Impressive Fashion Retail, Restaurants galore, the Tourism Office, which is the Station for the Petit Train which we recommend and near absolutely stunning Notre Dame, The Bayeux Tapestry, the canal. Bayeux escaped any bombing in WWII and this is remarkable and makes it an extremely beautiful and interesting city to stay in. |There was a lot to do and see and we wished we had a longer stay than 3 nights. We based ourselves in Bayeux to visit the 5 D Day Beaches, which we managed to do. Trains and Taxis used a lot, but we did it. We booked the Normandy Tours, operated by the Gare Hotel, with outstanding Tour Guide, Francois, and it was a highlight. Over 6 hours we visited Arromanches (Gold) Museum, Omaha and Utah Beaches, The American Cemetery and Pointe du Hoc. It was fantastic and unbelievable value at €87 per person.
We had a lovely time staying at La Citadine. We were met by Catherine who showed us around the apartment and welcomed us with delicious apple cakes and coffee.||The apartment is very well set up with many items to make your stay more comfortable. It is very clean. This location is excellent and easy walking distance to the Main Street. The Saturday markets are practically on the doorstep. Plenty of restaurants and bakeries are nearby and two supermarkets are an easy walk. ||If stairs are an issue for you there are two sets of stairs, one from the front door to the apartment and the other to the bedroom. The bathroom and toilet are not on the same level as the bedroom which was not an issue for us, however could be for some.||
First of all, Bayeux is a great place to visit. And La Citadine is the best place to stay! It is a home away from home with everything you need to be comfortable. You can fix some of your meals and do laundry, also. You won’t want to miss eating at the high quality restaurants in Bayeux, though. The old town is very convenient and safe. There is parallel parking right on the street if you have a car, which you should. You can enjoy a beautiful drive to the Normandy beaches, towns and museums. We are a family of 3 and stayed 5 days and loved it! Many thanks to Mme Briere (proprietor) who really knows what is needed for a fabulous vacation!
This was the highlight of our France trip. My husband and I are low key people. We found this apartment on Booking.com. It is located next to the square that holds an awesome market on Saturday. Parking is on the street. ||We were greeted by Catherine who offered us apple muffins and hot coffee. The apartment is styled as a London suite with cheery red furnishings and a kitchen that was stocked for cooking meals. (Bring your own food). Amenities included a washer/dryer combo, and a roomy bathroom that has surpassed any European hotel bathroom around. Large windows let in a lot of light but still gave some privacy. ||I absolutely loved the upstairs loft bedroom. Every morning we awoke to the rain pattering on the windows and was the most restful sleep we had on our trip. ||Would love to come back in a heartbeat.
This one bedroom apartment with king size bed and a twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Plenty of space for suitcases and clothes( could use a few more hangers). ||Washer dryer was great for our 12 day trip. Kitchen well equipped not only with cooking utensils and dishes but also coffee filters, varieties of tes, sugar, also spices to get you started cooking.||Lots of towels in the bathroom.||Yes yummy apple muffins and coffee upon arrival. The apartment is well marked with a sign but yes you must give an exact arrival time but easy to email or call.||Easy 10 minute walk to many restaurants , shops, markets etc
