This is a charming B & B ideally located for one touring the Somme battlefield. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, and our bathroom had a large bath tub in which one could take a relaxing soak after a day of touring and relic hunting. For those not fluent in French, the host speaks a passable English, but his wife very little. Not a problem. The wife is an outstanding cook. Breakfasts are part of the service offered, but for a very reasonable charge one can also have dinner prepared. We stayed two nights and had dinner on both nights. The dinners were gourmet and indescribably delicious. Even if there were decent restaurants nearby, which there are not I would highly recommend having dinner at the B&B. The hostess , also for a very modest charge, will prepare sandwiches and provide a beverage with which to picnic while touring the battlefield Altogether our stay was very enjoyable, and I highly recommend this B&B.
This large B&B at la Sars was in the perfect location for our visit to Warlencourt British Cemetery. We found Patrick and Ali to be the most delightful hosts. None of us were fluent in each other's language. That didn't matter, our hosts made the utmost effort to communicate with us very pleasantly and with great humour. The room (Room 1) was very pleasant and the beds most comfortable. The en-suite was of a very high standard with towels, complimentary soap and shampoo and even flannels provided. We were warm and had a very good nights sleep. The only negative with the room was that the latches on the door to the room and the door to the bathroom didn't click in properly. This was OK with the room door as it could be locked shut with the key. The bathroom door didn't have a lock to close it with. It was OK for us for one night, probably only our room and we didn't mention it to the owners - but worth being aware of if it could be an issue for you. ||||We had our evening meal at the B&B. There was a lot of thought gone into providing a delicious three course meal of local cuisine. The beef steak was very chewy and everyone was too polite to say anything because the meal was so lovely otherwise and our hosts were so delightful - so it was a bit expensive at E25 per head. There was a reasonable range of alcoholic beverages availabe at extra cost. Breakfast the next morning was buffet style and generous - cereal, breads, coffee, yoghurt, jam, cream cheese. We were surprised how much we felt we had been on holiday though we only stayed one night and it was in the sad context of visiting a family war grave. Not the cheapest of places to stay but we would definitely return and recommend.
This hotel is well situated for touring the Somme battlefields. The bedrooms were large as were the bathrooms which had a good shower over the bath. The hotel has a lovely interior with wooden floors and doors. Breakfast was continental with cereals and yoghurt provided also. We had dinner one night which was delicious and very well cooked and presented. We had booked four rooms for the family and found that we had to keep noise to a very low level as it echoed. The electric shutters were great for keeping out the light and noise from the road outside. The door to our room did latch unless it was locked. The door to the bathroom also would not latch. While the owners were good hosts we felt that we were being watched when we were in the dining room and didn't like to linger too long.
Stayed here for one night when visiting High Wood area. A warm, friendly welcome from the attentive hosts at the end of a busy day, even though we arrived a little early. Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with very good shower rooms (the shower worked really well, which is not always the case in all hotels!). The evening meal was of excellent quality and value, and we enjoyed with the company of other guests. Breakfast, too, was very good. Mention must be made of the electric shutters which were an excellent additional feature and helpful in reducing light and sound. An all round excellent base when visiting this area; characterful and comfortable!
